Top 10 Safest Airlines in World
The aviation website, airlineratings.com, monitors 449 airlines around the world and compiles the list of top 10 safest airlines. The list is assembled on the basis of various factors, like aviation governing bodies’ audits of FAA and ICAO and incident records of airlines.
Here is the list of top 10 safest airlines in the world:
- British Airways
- Air New Zealand
- EVA Air, Finnair
- Etihad Airways
- Cathay Pacific Airways
- Singapore Airlines
- TAP Portugal
Qantas is topping the charts with the ‘fatality-free record in the jet era’. All airlines were awarded stars on the basis of their safety ranks. While 149 airlines out of 449 achieved its top seven-star ranking, around 50 have three-star ranking or less. There are even 4 airlines (viz. Kam Air of Afghanistan, Scat of Kazakhstan, Nepal Airlines and Tara Air of Nepal) with only one star and have been banned from flying in EU.
In 2014, world’s airlines, with 27 million flights, carried 3.3 billion passengers. Although it was a bad year for aviation industry with an appalling record of 986 fatalities and 21 fatal incidents, including those of MH17, MH370, and QZ8501 yet trend of fatal incidents was at an historical low, that is, 1 for every 1.3 million flights. So, good thing is there have been fewer fatal incidents and accidents, keeping in view even busier skies.
