People of UAE can no more enjoy the WhatsApp calls facility after a fresh directive issued by UAE’s Telecommunication Regulations. The calling feature of WhatsApp has been restricted by the Telecom Authority. The decision was however expected after WhatsApp rolled out the feature of calling for Android. According to the Telecom Authority, the decision has been taken as per the UAE guidelines where all other VOIP services are restricted. It is interesting to know that other services like Skype, Viber also do not have a place in UAE.
UAE has become of hub of people who come across from different corner of the world. The WhatsApp calling feature gave them smile for few days. They were allowed to call to their own country without using the phone card. The feature was doing well for them and now they have to go back to the old days again and pay huge phone credits to make the international calls.
Disappointment of the people is quite obvious as hefty portion of the earnings go in international calling. Some people might have left their family back at home and their eyes were glittered when WhatsApp came with the calling feature. It was nice till it lasted. It has been always a matter of question in UAE for the VOIP feature. People from different age groups have justified that the WhatsAPP feature helped them a lot. People from South Asia who are settled in UAE especially Dubai felt hopeless again. There are many students as well in UAE from countries like Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and others.
With the restriction imposed on the WhatsAPP calling feature on Android, the saga of restricted VOIP continues in the country. The people across UAE now cannot use the feature on Android. IOS any does not support the calling feature at any part of the world.
