According to new data released by the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority, UAE has huge percentage of Smartphones registered. According to the reports, almost 61% registered mobile phones in the network are Smartphones.
Nokia now Microsoft continues to hold the highest market share in UAE. However, the percentage is alarmingly falling for the manufactures. During the last year, it lost 5% in the first two quarters and huge 12% in the last. Despite it enjoys 40% of handsets in UAE. Other Mobile Phone manufacturers are constantly growing and in coming future it is expected that the surge will topple Nokia. IPhone 5S is the most common and popular smart phone in UAE as far as the record in 2014 is concerned. The phone has seen 22% surge in the second quarter, 6% in the next and 9% at the last quarter. Samsung S III is another very common smartphone used in UAE. However the popularity is slowly decreasing.
The newly launched smart phones IPhone 6, Samsung Note III, Samsung Galaxy S5 are slowly picking the market. It is expected that Apple and Samsung will take over Nokia as the most popular brands in no later than 2015.
IPhone 5, IPhone 4S, Samsung Galaxy SIII are slowly losing their charisma among the customers in UAE. Blackberry on the other hand has almost vanished from the leading 15 mobile phone manufacturers.
The latest trend signifies the emergence of the smart phones in UAE. Once the market was ruled by Basic Models of Nokia but off late, lack of technology innovation and in modern race it has lost the credibility. The authorities in TRA expect that trend to continue even for this year and the percentage is expected grow even at a higher rate.
